Goodwill NYNJ has worked with Google to open a “Curated by Goodwill NYNJ” PopUp Shop in Chelsea Market, the sprawling office and retail building owned by Alphabet, Google’s parent company. The expansion of the “Curated by Goodwill NYNJ” PopUp Shop is an extension of Goodwill NYNJ & Google’s continued work together. The Curated shop located at 75 Ninth Ave.; NY, NY 10011 (South-West corner of Ninth Avenue and 16th Street) will be open February 2-27, every day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
At Curated by Goodwill NYNJ, the nonprofit’s new shopping concept, specially trained internal stylists and featured fashion influencers stock the shops with the season’s most on-trend, cool, and fashion-forward second-hand pieces. All merchandise is sourced from donations received at the 37 Goodwill stores across the NYC metropolitan region. Curated shoppers proudly boast that they are “consciously clothed” and “aware of the wear,” two Curated taglines. According to WWD, the resell market is projected to hit $41 Billion by 2022.
Goodwill NYNJ operates two permanent “Curated by Goodwill NYNJ” Shops at 258 Livingston St.; Brooklyn, NY 11201 and at 809 State Route 17; Paramus, NJ 07652.
The Curated PopUp Shop hosted its popular “Shop. Sip. Dance” monthly event on Thursday, February 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. featuring this month’s curator @thenotoriouskia.
“We’re thrilled we were able to work with Jamestown to find space to bring the Goodwill NYNJ Curated PopUp experience to Chelsea Market,” said Carley Graham Garcia, Head of External Affairs for Google New York. “Goodwill NYNJ continues to push the envelope when it comes to finding new ways to support local communities, whether it’s through skills-based job training or providing basic necessities for those in need. We’re excited to see how the PopUp Shop will impact the local community and encourage everyone, neighborhood residents and visitors alike, to stop by, shop and donate!”
“The Curated by Goodwill PopUp furthers Chelsea Market’s commitment to curating great retail combined with supporting the whole community,” said Michael Phillips, President of Jamestown.
The Curated PopUp Shop is one of a series of collaborations between Goodwill NYNJ and Google. Last year, as part of a 3-year Google.org grant, Goodwill NYNJ began providing tech training and employment services for individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment through the Goodwill Digital Career Accelerator Initiative.
“We are bringing a “Curated by Goodwill NYNJ” PopUp Shop to Chelsea this February to celebrate NY Fashion Week and introduce shoppers to a stylish alternative to fast fashion,” said Katy Gaul-Stigge, Goodwill NYNJ President and CEO. “People who shop at Goodwill triple their impact. They find unique pieces that keep New Yorkers ahead of the trends, their purchases create jobs locally, resulting in positive environmental outcomes for the global community. We are delighted to collaborate with Google in this fashion destination to support our vision of creating a world with no barriers to employment for all.”
