Goodwill NYNJ Marks MLK Day of Service

Goodwill NYNJ Marks MLK Day of Service

Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Day of Service, is observed every third Monday of January to celebrate the life and work of the civil rights leader. The MLK Day of service aims to empower individuals, strengthen communities, and inspire solutions to social problems. The vision of Goodwill NYNJ of creating a world with no barriers for all exemplifies the importance of this holiday.

This year, the “a day on, not a day off” holiday will be marked on January 21, 2019, as a way to transform the life and teachings of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. into community service that helps solve social problems. Every day, our team is lead by the Goodwill NYNJ mission of Goodwill NYNJ of empowering individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment to gain independence through the power of work.

Goodwill NYNJ provides you the opportunity to honor the legacy of Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. by lending a helping hand throughout the whole year. We welcome corporate and community partners for micro-volunteering one-day Community Day events. Your own work experience can give others much needed work readiness help. You can also join our team of volunteers who collect the clothing that runners shed at the NYC Marathon in November! We sell the sportswear at our stores to create jobs for your neighbors. Goodwill NYNJ hired or developed work options for 4,000 job-seekers, including 1,300 individuals with disabilities in 2017.
